In the Heights rush tickets to be offered at United Palace
It’s a (rush) offer you can’t refuse.
A special offer from the New York City Center focuses on the uptown community that propelled In the Heights to worldwide acclaim.
The new production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes will celebrate a near-three-week run at City Center at West 55th Street this fall, from October 28th through November 15th. The show, presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals, will be directed by David Mendizábal, with choreography by Mayte Natalio, and music direction by Alejandro Senior.
And everyone’s invited to this Carnaval del Barrio.
Founded in 1943 by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia as Manhattan’s first performing arts center ensuring that affordable and accessible experiences to all audiences, the City Center is making its storied mission matter – all the way uptown.
The organization is making 10,000 tickets available at $28 or less—with 5,000 of those tickets available to those who register at the $28 Heights Rush Ticket event on Sun., August 23rd at any time from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in person at the United Palace.
The $28 Heights Rush Ticket celebration will feature live performances from City Center’s community partners, including The Brotherhood Sister Sol, City Center’s Preludes! Summer Teen Theater Intensive, and The People’s Theatre Youth Company. In addition, there will be free In the Heights merchandise giveaways and music from radio station La Mega 97.9, with host Frederick Martínez “El Pachá” serving as MC.
“Bringing this celebration to Washington Heights is about meeting our audiences where they are and making it easier for neighborhood residents to access affordable tickets without having to travel to us,” said City Center’s President and CEO Michael S. Rosenberg in a statement. “We’re proud to bring a piece of City Center uptown and hope to welcome many of our Washington Heights neighbors to experience their stories on our stage this fall.”
Beginning at 9 a.m., as the centerpiece of the celebration, attendees can sign up in person for exclusive access to a digital rush.
Arriving early for registration does not affect your chances of securing tickets. All registrants will receive instructions and a single-use access code for the digital rush at 2 p.m. that day. Participants will enter a virtual waiting room, and tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once admitted, customers may purchase up to four $28 Heights Rush Tickets to one performance of In the Heights, subject to availability.
Inventory is limited to 5,000 tickets, and therefore signing up does not guarantee that registrants will get tickets.
“In the Heights is rooted in Washington Heights, and we’re delighted that we get to head uptown to celebrate the neighborhood and community that inspired it,” said City Center’s Vice President and Artistic Director of Musical Theater Jenny Gersten. “This special event is our way of saying thank you—with a morning of music, dancing, food, and performances that reflect the extraordinary artistry and spirit of the community.”
