They built it – and they came.
Whether drawn by the call of bomba on the avenue, enticed by the full-throated calls of Calma Carmona on stage, or called to join in a few capoeira rounds with Mestre Ombrinho, there would be no escaping the lure of the Loisaida Festival this past Sun., May 24th.
The full breadth of programming included theater presentations of a Latino take on the Shakespearean classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the sweet bombast of local marching bands and touching tributes to cultural pioneers – and more.
The festival, which celebrates diversity and inclusiveness, is one of the largest Latino pride events in New York City, and drew well over 15,000 attendees to dance, to play, and to cheer.

Lo construyeron y vinieron.
Ya fuesen atraídos por el llamado de la bomba en la avenida, por las llamadas a pleno pulmón de Calma Carmona en el escenario o para participar en unas cuantas rondas de capoeira con Mestre Ombrinho, no había escape de la tentación del Festival Loisaida el pasado domingo 24 de mayo.
La amplitud de la programación incluyó presentaciones de teatro de una toma latina sobre el clásico de Shakespeare A Midsummer Night’s Dream, la dulce grandilocuencia de bandas locales de música, homenajes emotivos a los pioneros culturales y mucho más.
El festival, que celebra la diversidad y la inclusión, es uno de los mayores eventos de orgullo latino en Nueva York, y atrajo más de 15,000 asistentes para bailar, jugar y animar.
