“A universe of borders”
An Evening of Short Stories and Spoken Word

Come explore the universe of borders with four New York-based artists during an evening of short stories and spoken word, in conjunction with Dream Uptown, a project of the Fort Tryon Jewish Center and Word Up Community Bookshop’s FACE OUT Author Reading series.

ePRHYME is a Brooklyn-based emcee, author and educator with deep roots in the West Coast underground. As a prolific recording artist, dynamic performer and visionary creative director, ePRHYME has made a name for himself by combining cutting edge cultural expression with iconoclastic and consciousness-expanding contemporary Jewish self-expression.
Matthue Roth is the author of the children’s book My First Kafka, which the New Yorker called “eerie and imaginative,” and a bunch of other books that aren’t for children. He co-created the animated series G-dcast and the website Hevria. By day he makes video games, and he keeps a secret diary at matthue.com.
Daniel “Majesty” Sanchez is a Hip-Hop performer, social justice organizer, educator, and cultural ambassador. A product of New York City, this first generation Cuban has toured nationally with the likes of Immortal Technique and internationally with Ice-T. He has been a feature performer at large-scale events such as the U.S. Social Forum held in Detroit and the Food Not Bombs Festival held in Boston.
Samantha Turk is the Assistant Fiction Editor of No Tokens, a journal of literature and art. She holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, and hangs her hat in Upper Manhattan. Her work has appeared in Madcap Review and Altar Journal.
This spring, the Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights will be the host of a new multi-disciplinary arts series featuring low-cost and free events. Dream Uptown, a project of the Fort Tryon Jewish Center (FJTC), presents live events through June 2015, produced by neighborhood volunteers and powered through collaborations with local arts organizations. Series curators invite arts enthusiasts and neighborhood residents alike to explore the idea of borders and boundaries in Washington Heights: from geography to politics, culture to religion, history to technology.
