October 31st – November 5th

Mark your calendars people; The Peoples Theatre Project (PTP) presents We The People A Social Justice Theatre Festival on December 9th thru the 11th. This is going to be big, folks. We’re talking theatre, panels, workshops, films and so much more. Yours truly will be taking part on a panel about race, community and the arts alongside Lauren Kelley and Veronica Santiago Liu that will be moderated by Erika Dickerson. Make sure you gather your people for We The People. See you there. It all goes down at the Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center (530 W 166th St).

It’s that time of year again. The DREAM Project (Dominican Republic Education and Mentoring Project) is holding their 5th Annual NYC Benefit: Sueños 2016 on Thursday, November 10th at the swank 40/40 Club from 7 to 10 pm. The Dream Project serves as a vital bridge between NYC and more than 7,000 underserved Dominican youth. This year, The DREAM Project will honor Dascha Polanco, actress and star of the Netflix series Orange is the New Black, as DREAMer of the Year. Polanco will be recognized for her philanthropic work, including a new Theatre and Arts Program she is developing for youth in the Dominican Republic in collaboration with DREAM.

Kyle Spencer of the NY Times penned a poignant piece on one man’s journey from prison to college. Chef Marcus Samuelsson is the man. Dan Q. Dao of Saveur takes us on a culinary jaunt through Harlem with the superstar chef.

The one and only Conan OBrien just completed an almost week-long residency at the world famous Apollo Theater. Nick Maslow of Entertainment Weekly reported on Conan’s sojourn in Harlem. Trust me, please check out the hilarious video of Conan meeting the people of Harlem that highlights that legendary Harlem hospitality.

Our Instagram Uptown post once again featured another incredible image from Jordan Matter. By the way, Mr. Matter has a new book of simply beautiful images out right now. Make sure you show him some Uptown Love and get yourself a copy. The whole town is abuzz with talk about Up Theaters latest production, Merciful Father. Get your tickets post haste. You have until November 12th.
