This is how devoted customers are to Sushi Yu II: one local
couple temporarily living in Pennsylvania once made
a round trip to W. 181st Street just for lunch. The couple also
decided to celebrate their wedding engagement and one-year
anniversary within Sushi Yu’s natural wood walls minimally
decorated with Japanese lanterns and prints.
According to staff, the menu has too many popular items to
name just a few. To sample the kitchen’s skills, try the special
rolls ($11.50-$12.50), such as the Volcano (tempura tuna and
spicy inside, avocado on top with chef special sauce) or Ocean
(grilled spicy scallop and tempura asparagus inside, seared tuna
and salmon and kani on top with special sauce). The Wonder
Roll is a great introduction for first-time sushi customers since
all the seafood is cooked: octopus, shrimp, spicy kani and white
fish with tempura green pepper ($11.95).
Beyond the fish specialties, Sushi Yu II serves a wide range
of tempura and teriyaki style dishes – Spanish speakers favor
chicken. The bento boxes are popular for lunch and dinner since
they offer a variety of cooked combination dishes with miso
soup, salad, rice and a sushi roll.
