Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced this morning that livery cars can pick up hails (passengers) throughout the city to assist with public transportation since subways and buses are haulted. Mayor Bloomberg signed Executive Order 164 providing alternate transportation to New Yorkers. Cira Angeles, spokesperson for the Livery Based Owners, Inc. (LBO) indicated “yesterday when Mayor Bloomberg asked us to hault livery pick ups since only emergency vehicles were to be on the streets, we complied. Today, all livery bases are opened and livery cars are transporting New Yorkers in compliance with Mayor Bloomberg’s Executive Order 164.
LBO is an umbrella organization whose members include more than 125 livery companies with more than 9,000 livery drivers based in the City of New York. Our members range from owners of bases with hundreds of drivers to base owners who themselves are drivers. These livery bases are primarily minority-owned small businesses. Livery Base Owners represents the interests of the livery industry and advocates on behalf of the livery companies, their owners and their drivers, including in connection with legislative and legal issues.
