Marisco Centro is a seafood palace. The entry to the flagship
restaurant on St. Nicholas Avenue, with sibling eateries
in the Bronx and Dominican Republic, is lined with a counter
displaying all manner of fresh fish available for that day’s menu.
Painted turtles and fish swim over head on the ceiling, nautical
supplies line the walls and sections of the floor have been
removed to reveal small aquariums.
The number of available dishes is staggering considering how
many different fish Marisco offers and the number of ways it
can be prepared: steamed, grilled, baked, fried and flavored with
garlic, Creole seasoning, or coconut sauce ($9-$29). For the
more regal palate, consider the stuffed lobster dishes or paella.
The cold seafood salads with vinaigrette dressing are unique
and portioned from sides dishes to family pleasers ($6-$16).
Marisco is also known for its special fish soup, with chunks
of salmon and snapper, that can cure the soul faster than most
chicken soups. And if you prefer your meat to have come from
land, there are plenty of steak and chicken dishes as well.
