Neighborhood Blogwatch The Pink Factor The Pink Factor is a diary-style blog that charts the life of one young woman living her life in New York City. Nothing groundbreaking or out of the ordinary, except for one thing: the young person in question is Mormon and, according to her, life in the city can be tough for a 27-year-old woman of her faith. But that doesn’t get her down. Whether spending time watching movies like Hannah Montana in Harlem, splashing in puddles along Broadway or rebuffing come-ons from strangers in Washington Heights, this blogger takes what life presents and finds joy in the small moments. The site has been in operation since 2006 and covers a wide range of neighborhood issues and lists upcoming events in the area. Although the site is much more focused on covering the Harlem area, it’s worth popping in regularly to see what issues might be affecting our “Lower Manhattan” brethren in the low 100s. Brave Star “425,” April 16, 2009 It is unclear and unlikely that this author is actually living in Northern Manhattan, but one recent post of a Washington Heights-focused poem was so beautiful and inspiring it just had to be featured here. The poem, written by Aracelis Girmay, is titled, “For Estefani Lora, Third Grade, Who Made Me A Card,” and begins with a dedication to Estafani Lor, a student at PS 132 in Washington Heights. The words lyrically express the challenges and opportunities presented by learning English as a second language.
