Based on the success of Harlem’s Uptown Juice Bar and

Café Veg, co-owners Morton Hall and David Simmons

have continued to spread their vision of healthy all-natural

cuisine to Northern Manhattan with Heights Vegetarian, which

opened earlier this year. Their popularity, no doubt, comes from

the wonderful vegan and vegetarian dishes they’ve concocted

based on the Caribbean food they both grew up on – Hall and

Simmons are from Trinidad and Guyana respectfully. Wraps,

veggie burgers, fruit smoothies (no powders or thickeners) and

even wheat grass shots (aged to exactly a week so that the enzyme

levels are at their highest) are made to order. Or you can

design a combination plate for $8-9. The stir-fry, BBQ and curry

chicken (made of wheat and soy) dishes are customer favorites.

Make sure you try the Phlourie, made from yellow split peas

and curry, which look like tiny hush puppies and are served

with a zesty green sauce. And the vegan carrot cake, death by

chocolate and Oreo cookie cakes are diligently decadent.
