An honest employee

To the Editor:

I want to publicly commend Gregory, an employee from Capitol Restaurant located at 4933 Broadway in Inwood, for proving that there are still honest people in the world.

On Sat., July 11, my wife and I went to the establishment for lunch. When the $15 check arrived, I accidentally gave him a $100 bill and said “Keep the change,” thinking it was a $20. My server would have had one heck of a tip if he was dishonest and said nothing. However, sensing that I may have mistakenly gave him the wrong amount, Gregory asked me if I paid with the correct bill, which obviously I didn’t. If he had not made me aware of the mistake I made, I would have been $100 short on an expense that needed to be paid in a few days.

In a world where dishonesty unfortunately seems to be rewarded more than honesty, I feel it is important to acknowledge this extraordinary gentleman for doing the right thing. It’s good to know that I can patronize a business that not only serves good food, but also has honest employees who represent their jobs and the Inwood community with honor.
