Story and photos by Robin Elisabeth Kilmer

Cardinal Timothy Dolan attended the Good Shepherd School’s Benefactor’s Ball.

A cocktail reception preceded the banquet at Good Shepherd School on Sat., Apr. 13th.

It was a very happy hour.

Amidst animated chatter, the sound of Doo Wop hung in the air, and the room was filled with the school’s alumni, many from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s.

Story and photos by Robin Elisabeth Kilmer

A recent blood drive was held at the Helene Fuld College of Nursing.

After the Boston Marathon bombings on Mon., Apr. 15th, there were reports of marathoners who sprinted to the nearest blood donation center after having already run over 26 miles.

Two days later, on Wed., Apr. 17th, many in New York made their own way to local blood drives.

A blood drive at Helene Fuld College of Nursing on 120th Street and Madison Avenue was part of a regularly scheduled health fair, and most of the donated blood would stay within New York State.

Camile Monestine, of the New York Blood Center, which was collecting donations on-site, explained that donated blood is used for all types of medical procedures, not just during the kind of traumatic blood loss seen after the bombing.
