Lindsey St. Onge le gustaría reintroducirse a si misma.

St. Onge, una nativa de Los Angeles que vive y trabaja en Washington Heights, se ha presentado con Kristin Chenoweth en el Disney Concert Hall y con Josh Groban. Estudió teatro musical en el Conservatorio de Boston. Pero esos días han quedado atrás. “Estaba tan enfocada en hacer teatro musical que no estaba trabajando en mi verdadera pasión”, dijo ella.

St. Onge ahora está explorando los dos géneros que la más la mueven: el jazz y los blues. Cuenta entre sus inspiraciones musicales el artista favorito local Lord Apartment, como también Esperanza Spalding y Freddie King.

A new Artists Unite exhibit featuring local artists is being unveiled at The Berkshire Bank.

Artists Unite wants to occupy 187^th Street.

“It’s our idea to show art on the entire street,” said Rosa Naparstek, the director of Artists Unite, the ten-year-old organization that has dedicated itself to promoting artist collaboration in order to increase the public’s interaction with art.

This colorful creative occupation, an exhibit officially called “Landscape: Three Views,” will start at Berkshire Bank.

The occupiers are three local artists, Robin Seligman-Schmidt, Robin Raddatz and Theodore Zirnite.

Early last week, the artists, along with Naparstek, spent the day hanging their pieces as the sun filtered through the windows in anticipation of the exhibit's opening on Tues., Dec. 11th.

Artists Unite’ desea ocupar la Calle 187.

“Es nuestra idea mostrar arte en toda la calle”, dijo Rosa Naparstek, directora de ‘Artists Unite’, la organización de 10 años que se ha dedicado a promover la colaboración artística con el fin de aumentar la interacción del público con el arte.

Esta colorida ocupación creativa, una exhibición oficialmente llamada ‘Landscape: Three Views’, comenzará en el Banco Berkshire.

Los ocupantes lo son tres artistas locales, Robin Seligman-Schmidt, Robin Raddatz y Theodore Zirnite.

A principios de la semana pasada, junto a Naparstek, pasaron el día colgando sus piezas mientras el sol se filtraba a través de las ventanas en anticipación de la apertura de la exhibición el martes, 11 de diciembre.

Before there was Community Board 12, before Isham and Inwood Hill Parks, before Juan Pablo Duarte School and George Washington High School, there was the Hamilton Free School.

Eliza Hamilton, the widow of founding father Alexander Hamilton, started the Hamilton Free School in 1818.

It was the first school in Washington Heights, predating the public school system, which started in 1870.

The Hamilton Free School would undergo a series of transformations, becoming the Dyckman Library, and later the Dyckman Institute before being dissolved into a scholarship fund for Columbia University.

Ser estudiante de Columbia no es fácil.

Antes de que hubiera una Junta Comunal 12, antes de los Parques Isham e Inwood, antes de la Escuela Juan Pablo Duarte y la Escuela Superior George Washington, estaba la Escuela Hamilton Free.

Eliza Hamilton, la viuda del padre fundador Alexander Hamilton, comenzó la Escuela Gratuita Hamilton en el 1818.

Fue la primera escuela en Washington Heights, precediendo el sistema escolar público, el cual comenzó en el 1870.

La Escuela Gratis Hamilton se sometería a una serie de transformaciones, pasando a ser la Biblioteca Dyckman, y luego el Instituto Dyckman antes de ser disuelta en un fondo de becas de la Universidad Columbia.
