“It’s important to start teaching the children in the community about trees,” said Miriam Aristy-Farer.
Miriam Aristy-Farer wants city kids to experience holding loamy soil in their hands, to watch the magic of seeds growing into plants.
But when she approached a community garden close to her children’s school, P.S. 153, they said the school should tend the trees on their own street.
So Aristy-Farer, and the teachers at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Elementary School got busy. They wrote grants, and with the proceeds bought soil, plants and mulch and beautified the block.
That was three years ago.

It’s on people. The Northern Manhattan Restaurant Week has begun and that means a bunch of great deals at some of your favorite restaurants. The promotion also gives you a reason to try some of the spots you haven’t patronized yet. But hurry, Northern Manhattan Restaurant Week ends on Sunday, May 26th.
The always-incredible Carnaval Del Boulevard goes down on Saturday, June 1st from 11am to 6 pm on St. Nicholas Avenue from 181st to 188th Streets.
Esa lista incluye un viaje a Materials for the Arts (MFTA).
