There's a new development at Freddy's Colors.The photo shop on West 191st St. and St. Nicholas Avenue has been re-named, re-christened and renovated.
Now called Real Photos, the shop owned by Freddy Alcantara, has shed its Kodak-yellow and red awning. Now, the exterior gleams with modern chrome signage.The inside glistens with cut-chandeliers and hums with new equipment.But it's the same old-fashioned service that has kept customers coming back.

 Cámaras y comunidad: Unas “Fotos Reales”


Una vez llamado Freddy's Colors, el recién renovado estudio fotográfico manejado por Freddy Alcántara por más de 20 años, ahora es nombrado "Real Photos" y ha experimentado una masiva renovación en honor a su aniversario de dos décadas

Hay un nuevo desarrollo en Freddy's Colors.

La tienda de fotografía en el Oeste de la Calle 191 y la Avenida St. Nicholas ha sido renombrada, rebautizada y renovada.

Ahora llamada Real Photos, la tienda propiedad de Freddy Alcántara, ha arrojado su toldo de Kodak amarillo y rojo. Ahora, el exterior reluce con un moderno letrero de cromo.

The Lamport Auditorium in Yeshiva University's Zysman Hall was filled with community board members and residents on Tues., Jan. 24th for the Community Board 12's first general meeting of the year.

The Red Room Lounge's license is denied

Community board members and local residents banded together to deny a resolution to grant The Red Room Lounge, known formerly as The Red Room on 10 Bennett Avenue, a liquor license.

El Auditorio Lamport del Salón Zysman de la Universidad Yeshiva estaba lleno de miembros de la Junta Comunal y residentes el martes, 24 de enero para la primera reunión general del año de la Junta Comunal 12.

Entre los muchos asuntos discutidos en la reunión de 3 horas estuvieron los siguientes.

La licencia del 'Red Room Lounge' es denegada

Miembros de la Junta Comunal y residentes locales se unieron para denegar una resolución para concederle a 'The Red Room Lounge', conocido anteriormente como 'The Red Room' en el 10 de la Avenida Bennett, una licencia de licor.

Rarely in this city can any one person claim to be 'the best' at anything.

In a city this big, there's always someone, somewhere, taking it one step farther, doing whatever it is just a little better, a little quicker.

Nonetheless, over 5,000 New York City high-schoolers gathered at the Armory Track and Field in Washington Heights on Saturday for a track meet that aims to determine just that: who's the very best.

Training good scholars in and out of the ring
Students in good academic standing at I.S. 52 are participating in a new fitness and boxing program offered by the Upper Manhattan Rotary Club at the D.A.S. Fitness Center. I.S. 52 is not only full of scholars; it seems there are a few fighters too.

And they'd like a few more.

The school, in collaboration with the Upper Manhattan Rotary Club and the Washington Heights-based D.A.S. Training Center, has arranged to allow some students in good academic standing to train at the center.

Entrenando a buenos estudiantes dentro y afuera del cuadrilátero
"No sólo tienen que estar envueltos en el boxeo pueden hacer boxeo y karate. Queremos que se entrenen continuamente para que mejoren lo que hacen", dijo Santiago. Los niños serán entrenados uno a uno en boxeo, y también toman parte en la clase de karate del Centro.

I.S. 52 no sólo está llena de estudiantes; parece ser que también hay algunos luchadores.

Y les gustaría unos pocos más.

La escuela, en colaboración con el Club Rotario del ‘Upper Manhattan’ y el ‘WashingtonHeigths-D.A.S.TrainingCenter, permite a algunos estudiantes con buenas calificaciones entrenar en el Centro.

As anyone working in healthcare today knows, one of the most significant challenges facing New York and our country as a whole is the staggering number of people who are unable to afford their prescription medications.

Students of Sosúa: Dare to Dance TogetherSosúa: Dare to Dance Together the original musical performance conceived by Victoria Neznansky at the YM&YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood, and created and composed by Liz Swados, performed at at the Museum of Jewish Heritage this past Sun., Jan. 29th  in honor of National Holocaust Remembrance Day. In Sosúa Jewish and Dominican teens from New York City share and connect their personal experiences with the history of Jewish people escaping the Holocaust and finding sanctuary in the Dominican Republic.
