Audience members listened to presentation on opportunities for employment with the federal government at an information session held by Congressman Rangel.

Congressman Charles Rangel hosted an information session this week that sought to connect community residents interested in exploring careers in the federal government with representatives from the U.S. Office of Personnel and Management, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and Citizen Schools NYC at the City College of New York (CCNY).

The government career info session, held on Thurs., Apr. 12th, was conceived as part of Congressman Rangel's ongoing efforts to put constituents back to work.

"The federal government hires people in many different fields, from accounting to public affairs, health care to law enforcement, and everything in between. For so many, however, the steps to getting a federal job seem numerous and difficult," said Congressman Rangel. "I am pleased that many of my constituents participated in this unique opportunity to gain insight and explore many different paths to careers in the federal government."

El congresista Charles Rangel auspició esta semana una sesión informativa la cual procuró conectar a los residentes de la comunidad interesados en explorar carreras en el gobierno federal, con representantes de la de Personal y Administración de los Estados Unidos, el Cuerpo de Paz, AmeriCorps, y CCNY, (Escuelas de Ciudadanos de NYC en City College de Nueva York).

La sesión informativa del gobierno sobre la carrera, celebrada el jueves 12 de abril, fue concebida como parte de los constantes esfuerzos del congresista Rangel de regresar a los electores a la fuerza de trabajo.

"El gobierno federal contrata a gente en diversas áreas, desde contabilidad hasta asuntos públicos, cuidado de la salud a aplicación de la ley, y todo lo que este de por medio. Sin embargo, para muchos, los pasos para obtener un empleo federal parecen numerosos y dificultosos", expresó el congresista Rangel. "Me complace que muchos de mis electores participarán en esta oportunidad única de lograr comprender y explorar los muchos caminos diversos hacia una carrera en el gobierno federal".

Durante su presentación, Karlos DelToro de la oficina de Personal y Administración de Estados Unidos, enfatizó la importancia de conocer diferentes opciones de empleo dentro del gobierno federal y ser persistente durante el proceso de aplicación.

To outsiders, Manhattan, the heart of New York City, is world famous as the exciting home of theatre, fashion and museums; but those living in Inwood and Washington Heights know that the local parks rival those attractions.

They may not, however, know all the secrets of Inwood Park.

"There are salamanders, skunks, lots of waterfowl from mallards to herons. It's amazing that there is so much life and wildlife in Manhattan," said Sergeant Sunny Corrao, a New York City Urban Park Ranger stationed in the Inwood Hill Park Nature Center.

Para los forasteros, Manhattan, el corazón de la ciudad de Nueva York, es mundialmente conocido como el emocionante hogar del teatro, la moda y los museos; pero aquellos viviendo en Inwood y Washington Heights saben que los parques locales rivalizan con esas atracciones.

Es increíble que exista tanta vida y vida silvestre en Manhattan", dijo la Sargento Sunny Corrao, Guardabosques de Parque Urbano en la ciudad de Nueva York estacionado en el Centro Natural del Parque Inwood Hill.

"Mi parte favorita del trabajo es salir afuera y patrullar – caminar el parque, guiar a través de ciertas áreas asegurándome que el parque esté seguro", añadió la Sargento Corrao.

Además de sus habitantes naturales, el pantano y el bosque algunas veces son hogar de animales como los coyotes, pasando a través, y de animales abandonados. El mantener el parque seguro a menudo significa rescatar animales y transferir los animales a un rehabilitador de vida silvestre licenciado.

The new screening initiative "Project Health/Proyecto Salud" was launched in New York City this past week by CVS Pharmacy.

Harlem has long been home to famous sites such as the Apollo Theatre, Sylvia's Restaurant, Hotel Theresa, and The Cotton Club.

This past week, the neighborhood also served as host to a new philanthropic partnership and inaugural screening program that together are intended to advance the good health of local northern Manhattan residents.

Lenox Avenue neighbors Harlem United and CVS Pharmacy came together on Thurs., April 5th for an afternoon of substantive discussion on disease prevention, health disparities and to debut a new model of service.
