Members of the Inwood Little League, the oldest league in the city, line up for the season's inaugural parade.

Forget pinstripes – the best baseball players were on Broadway this weekend.

This past Sunday, the city's oldest Little League kicked off its newest spring season.

Hundreds of family members and over 600 players within the Inwood Little League marched from the intersection of Dyckman and Seaman Avenue to the Inwood Hill Park ball fields in Opening Day ceremonies.

Led by Mother Cabrini High School's all-female marching band, the parade of young baseball players and families snaked a colorful path along Broadway on a perfectly sunny early afternoon on Sun., Apr. 15th.

Those driving past in cars and passerby on foot slowed to wave and take photos of the smartly dressed Little Leaguers in bright uniforms and cleats.

La banda de marchar de hembras de la escuela secundaria Mother Cabrini abrió el camino a lo largo de Broadway a los campos de bolas de Inwood Hill Park.Crédito: QPHOTONYC

Olvídese de los trajes de rayas - los mejores jugadores del béisbol estaban en Broadway este fin de semana.

El pasado domingo, la Pequeña Liga más antigua de la ciudad lanzó su temporada de primavera. Cientos de miembros de familia y más de 600 jugadores de la Liga Pequeña de Inwood marcharon desde la intersección de Dyckman y la Avenida Seaman hasta los campos de beisbol del Parque Inwood Hill para las ceremonias del día de apertura.

Liderados por la banda de la escuela secundaria Mother Cabrini, que estaba compuesta solamente de mujeres, el desfile de jugadores jóvenes de béisbol y las familias serpenteaban un camino colorido a lo largo de Broadway, en una tarde soleada a la perfección este domingo 15 de abril.

Los conductores de autos y esos caminando a pie se paraban para saludar y tomar fotos de los jugadores de la Liga Pequeña muy bien vestidos con uniformes brillantes y listones.

No need to call the cable company.

Now, should you happen to be in northern Manhattan, you can be the one to pay a visit.

This past Wed., Apr. 4th, the Time Warner Cable Learning Laboratory, a new state-of-the-art facility complete with new workstations, a recording studio and a gym, was unveiled at the James Weldon Johnson Community Center on Lexington Avenue.

Time Warner Cable (TWC) contributed the resources necessary to found a new technology center for the free use of residents.

The community center, opened in January 2011, is host to several classrooms, arts space, a gymnasium, a kitchen, a meeting room and offices.

Ahora, si llega usted a estar en el norte de Manhattan, puede que sea usted el que haga una visita.

Este pasado miércoles 4 de abril, el Laboratorio de Aprendizaje de Time Warner Cable, una nueva instalación de último modelo con nuevas estaciones de trabajo, un estudio de grabación, y un gimnasio, fue inaugurado en el James Weldon Community Center en la Avenida Lexington.

Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) ha anunciado el inicio del Paseo de las Artes 2012 – un festival de arte en Washington Heights e Inwood. Este festival se llevará a cabo en el mes de junio. Participe en los eventos que se realizarán durante el Paseo y/o de a conocer las actividades artísticas que está planeando realizar durante esas fechas en el vecindario para incluirle en el calendario. La fecha límite para incorporar su evento al calendario es el 25 de abril.

The Trio Dominicano is composed of Darwin Aquino, composer and violinist, Juan Pablo, cellist and Maria Fatima, pianist.

The Association of Dominican Classical Artists (ADCA) hosted a concert this past Fri., Apr. 13th in which accomplished Dominican composer, violinist and conductor Darwin Aquino presented his original works, and paid tribute to one of the Dominican masters.

The concert took place at City College's Shepard Hall, and was sponsored by the City University of New York's Dominican Studies Institute (DSI) and New York City Councilmember Ydanis Rodriguez.

A community as complex and vibrant as ours expects and requires many things from an elementary school education.

Well-trained, creative, caring, and dedicated teachers and administrators are a must. An engaging and rigorous curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students is also essential. A school environment that welcomes and recognizes the contributions of families from a broad range of cultures and backgrounds is critical. And one of the most fundamental requirements, particularly of early grade education, is the ability to nurture a love of learning and encourage critical thinking.
