Heavy rain, and an uncovered roof, soak top floor of residential building

Heavy rains leaked through a demolished, unprotected roof at 507 W. 172nd Street soaking the top floor apartments.
Contractors went into the building to repair the roof and start working on the soggy apartments. Building inspectors, pictured above, also were in the building on May 3.

It was dark when Deya de la Rosa, 17, was woken up by the dripping water from her ceiling. As the rain tapped louder above her apartment on the top floor of 507 W. 172nd Street, the water dripped faster down onto her bed and also into the crib of her eight-month-old sleeping daughter, Cassie Suero.

We believe that our view accurately reflects the sentiments of the great majority of the residents of our community.

The Arizona Immigration Law is Regressive and Dangerous

As the immigration issue heats up in Washington, the Arizona State Legislature recently passed shockingly regressive legislation that requires state police officers to “in the course of any contact with an alleged perpetrator” establish immigration status. The law also makes it a state crime to live in or travel through Arizona illegally. Essentially, the Arizona State Legislature has declared open season on racial profiling. Not since the repealing of the Jim Crow Laws due to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 has a policy in the United States been so racially divisive.
