By Carla Zanoni Feet in Two Worlds: Telling the Stories of Today’s Immigrants “Reversal of Fortunes? In Economic Crisis, Dominican Immigrants in U.S. Receiving Money from Home,” May 18 This intellectual blog focuses on all things related to the life of an immigrant in the United States, be they from Asia, Europe, Latin America and beyond. In this posting, Maibe González, a blog contributor, takes a look at the growing trend of Dominican immigrants in the United States sending large amounts of money back to the Dominican Republic. Although this “trend” can be disputed and possibly debunked—immigrants have been sending money home to family, friends and political bodies forever—the focus on this population makes the site worthwhile, especially considering the story rightfully labels Washington Heights as the epicenter of Dominican immigration in the United States. feetin2worlds.wordpress.com/blog Mike Levin “Taking Control of my Journey,” May 18 Mike Levin describes himself as “the search engine optimizer living in New York City” and takes his life and work seriously. Apparently this blog, which is heavily reliant on photo images and text, is his attempt to “comic-cast” his life (still not sure what that means) in order “to create commitment and consistency” and “try to pull off something big.” Plus, he comes highly personally and professionally recommended. Judging from his posts so far and his commitment to Inwood (see his blog about cleaning up Inwood Hill Park during the Parks Department’s “It’s My Park Day”) it’s worth the time of those interested in sitting down and logging on for the ride. mikelevin.me Life & Times “To The Person in My Building Blasting Jimmy Buffett,” May 11 Sometimes the best neighborhood blog is the one where little useful information is provided and very important opinions and observations are dispersed. Life & Times would be one of those blogs. Part photo-documentary of Inwood, part rant against humanity (see the above posting), Rachel Figueroa-Levin (and her adorable dog Cecil) may be one of the newest additions to the Inwood blogging family, but she manages to get the tone right to easily put a smile on your face.
