Veronica Liu, the managing editor for the publisher Seven Stories Press, said Word Up Bookstore, which she runs with the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance and Vantage Residential in a vacant Broadway storefront, will stay open through September.
Word Up, the plucky volunteer bookstore occupying a vacant Broadway storefront, has received an extension from landlord Vantage Residential – it will continue to enchant local readers through the end of September.

Police say they arrested a man on Mon., July 4th in connection with an alleged sexual attack in Washington Heights last month.

The 34th Precinct Community Council announced that it had seized 12 motorcycles over the Fourth of July weekend as part of a summer-long campaign to address quality of life conditions.

Starting July 18th, students of the 2011 Washington Heights Summer Dance Festival will join local dance repertory the Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company every day, for six days, from 9 am to 6 pm, to participate in daily technique, repertory, composition, and master classes.

Summertime. Yum.
Summertime, in our dense urban communities in Washington Heights and the Bronx, means a colorful and delicious bounty that makes its unlikely way to many corners of our concrete jungle.

Having wrapped up six months of informal conversations with the community about plans for two to four residential towers on Broadway at W. 190th Street, the developer will begin working with the Department of City Planning to submit an application in the fall. On the eve of beginning conversations with the Department of City Planning and after six months of informal meetings with community and elected leaders, the developers who are planning to build two to four high rise apartments on Broadway at W. 190th Street met with a Community Board 12 committee last week in hopes of garnering backing for the project.

Its official, Vantage Residential has extended the use of Word Up (4157 Broadway) until the end of September. This is a big victory for our community and for book lovers.
