‘Twas the Sunday before Christmas, and all were in sight, at The Church of the Intercession to celebrate the life of Clement Clarke Moore and to rejoice in the bountiful holiday spirit.

El pasado domingo la iglesia de la Intercesión se lleno de gente tanto para celebrar la vida de Clement Clarke Moore como para resaltar con alegría el espíritu navideño.

As announced on Mon., Dec. 19th, Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network, and one of the country's foremost leaders for civil rights, along with the National Action Network's Board of Directors, is appealing to Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign the historic five-borough taxi legislation, saying it is about fairness and justice: fairness for all of the neighborhoods that the yellow taxi industry has refused to serve for decades, and justice for 40,000 livery drivers who would finally be able to earn a living without hiding in the shadows.

Gregorio Luperon High School was packed with local residents seeking assistance with their naturalization and citizenship applications from CUNY’s Citizenship Now! program.

Looking to give themselves and their loved ones the most permanent gift of all, residents from Washington Heights filled the auditorium of Gregorio Luperon High School on Broadway and West 165th Street this past Sat., Dec. 17th.

Community Board 12’s last meeting of the year proved a typical encounter, in the best sense. Agenda items large and small were vetted, including a heartfelt goodbye to a valued employee and an invitation to buy shares in a local bookstore.

Children on stage performing “Occupy Your Life,” a new play that is the collaborative efforts of People’s Theatre Project and C.H.A.L.K., or Choosing Healthy and Active Lifestyles for Kids, a program of The Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.

That was the direct message The People’s Theatre Project was sending out with their new play, as performed last Wed., Dec. 14th by a cast of 15 children from Washington Heights.

Los niños realizaron la obra “Ocupa tu vida,” la cual consistía de diferentes actos promoviendo una vida saludable; la obra es una colaboración entre 'Choosing Healthy & Active Lifestyles for Kids’ (CHALK), un programa del Hospital Presbyterian y el Centro Médico de la Universidad Columbia y también el grupo “People’s Theatre Project.”
Ocupa tu vida. Ese es el mensaje que el “People’s Theatre Project” estaba enviando con su obra “Occupy Your Life” con el elenco de 15 niños de Washington Heights realizado el pasado miércoles en el Wintergarden Plaza del Hospital de Niños ‘The Morgan Stanley’ localizado en Broadway y la Calle 165.

Community was the theme of the day at Simone Song’s “Celebrating Hudson Heights” event on this past Sun., Dec.11th.

Comunidad fue el tema del día en la canción de Simone Song, “Celebrando Hudson Heights,” en el evento del domingo, 11 de diciembre. Song, de Simone Song Properties, escogió conmemorar el 25to aniversario de su agencia de bienes raíces en el 241 de Cabrini Boulevard convirtiendo su fiesta navideña anual en Hudson View Gardens en un día completo de recaudación para beneficiar PS/IS 187, la escuela local de Hudson Heights.

This time last year, the talk was of its being the last Christmas show at Good Shepherd school. It had been announced in November 2010 that the school’s closure by the Archdiocese of New York was imminent.

Jeff Isaacs had a liver transplant in 2005, and now serves as a certified transplant mentor. He recently celebrated at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation, which has performed more than 1,400 liver transplants.

Jeff Isaacs was extremely ill with liver disease, but he found out he didn’t immediately qualify for a transplant.

For the last year the Manhattan Times has published the column Living El Alto. Our newspaper’s objective is to share The Heights; what it means to live here, to breathe here, to play here. After twelve years of publishing this newspaper, I have come to the conclusion that the column could have been called Living El Auto.

This past Thursday, at the sleek and sexy new hotspot, Negroclaro Lounge (3805 10th Ave), the Uptown Collective had its 2nd annual holiday bash. And, man what a party it was. I want to thank everyone that came out and all those that didn’t come out but have supported the site. We will continue highlighting the best of what Uptown has to offer. Here’s to another year of Uptown excellence!
