Neighborhood Blogwatch

Eating the World in NYC

One of the most amazing things about New York is the fact that you could eat at a different spot every night of the year, for many years, and never repeat a restaurant. Eating the World in NYC takes that premise and tours all of the city in search of the best food fare to indulge in the five boroughs’ nooks and crannies. Not your typical Northern Manhattan dilettante, this site’s author(s) tells readers the real deal on neighborhood menus, differentiating between good food and the best food.  Up in Inwood and Washington Heights, stop at a chimi truck east of Broadway or pick up fried chicken joint on the southern and of Broadway and rice and beans  on the north end. Delicious.

Life and Times of a “New” New Yorker

It’s been some time since Amanda moved to New York City, but the way she writes and her excitement for the city gives it that doe-eyed quality that reminds even the most jaded New Yorker that this is pretty great place to live.  In addition to her NYC adventures, in and out of Inwood, Amanda also details her adventures in literature (she’s a librarian) and her life shared with a husband and two of the most adorable dogs you’ve ever seen.

A Garden in Riotous Bloom

Beautiful. Damn Hard. Increasingly Useful.

Many people begin blogs. Few people blog for nearly a decade. But Inwoodite Rose Fox has, and she does it with such a lack of self-consciousness that it sometimes gives a reader a thrill you’d get reading someone’s journal (minus the guilt and fear of being caught).  This literary type, voracious chef and baker, and political thinker, details the intimate ins and outs of her life and throws in a good measure of humor along with astute observations of herself and all her world’s players. It’s a treat to be snuck in here, into this garden in riotous bloom.
