It started with one or two kids wondering why no cars were on the street. Then a few more came out. Just after noon a game of whiffle ball had been organized, and the bases mapped out.

Smelly situation has Washington Heights group worried about its building

There’s something very wrong going on under the street at 540 W. 159th Street, and it stinks. When a river of water rushes down the hill from open hydrants and into the sewer drain in front of this pre-war building, it doesn’t rush off out of sight. It gushes out of a wall in the basement of the building. If that weren’t bad enough, the sewer also backs up, flood the basement an inch deep with raw sewage.

Vance, Jr. today announced the guilty plea of Marcel Navarro a/k/a “JD Marcel," 22, for running an Inwood gun and drug trafficking ring that sold firearms and wholesale quantities of cocaine and Ecstasy to an undercover detective during a 10-month investigation.

 


High Bridge Water Tower closed for emergency repairs

The evening was monstrously hot on Wednesday, July 20. Throughout Manhattan, open fire hydrants and playground spray elements brought cooling relief to children in bathing suits or drenched street clothes. At Emerson Playground, in Inwood Hill Park, however, a sweaty, bewildered toddler peered longingly through the cast iron padlocked gates at the empty swings, abandoned slides and the dry fountain.
