September 26 – October 1
I have said on many occasions that there is nothing in the world that compares to an Uptown summer. Uptown summers are magical, memorable and magnificent creatures. Certain Uptown summers leave an indelible imprint on your memory. They become the stuff of legend. This summer will go down in history as one such year and the Uptown Collective was there to capture, document and broadcast that kinetic dynamism for the world to see, hear and feel. With that said, check out our site for the Uptown Collective’s annual, multi-media summer retrospective.
This past summer, music producer, Frankie P, began working on his first LIVE instrumental solo project. With no regard to song structure, radio format, formulas, or boundaries, he created what came from the heart; the result was “Hazy Nights In The Heights,” an instrumental ride through the mind of Frankie P. The entire album will be available for free on October 10th at www.awakeinmydreams.com.
Uptown Collective stalwart Dj Boy took a trip to the picturesque Dominican Republic and brought us back some eye-popping pictures documenting his journey. Speaking of photography, our Uptown Artist column featured the remarkable work of Uptown photographer Emil Baez.
The City Room section of the New York Times will be documenting the contours of autumn on a weekly basis from our very own Inwood Hill Park. Marielle Anzelone, a botanist and urban ecologist who founded NYC Wildflower Week, will report from a patch of forest in Inwood Hill Park once a week.
On September 25th, Uptown had the honor of kicking off the national Latin Grammy Street Party Tour at the aforementioned Inwood Hill Park. The neighborhood came out in droves to take part in this celebration of Latino music, culture and heritage. Some heavyweight entertainers such as Los Hermanos Rosario, Eddy Herrera and Delexilio among others came out to raucous support and applause.
As always, keep checking us out at www.uptowncollective.com.
