October 31 – November 5
We began the week with a heartwarming story by our very own Carolina Pichardo on a young Uptown mom who decided to do her part to combat homelessness in our neighborhood. For the past 2 years, Jennie Lee Genao has been making regular rounds in the community to provide care packages to homeless people. For more information or to join her, send an e-mail to

Apt 78 has been instrumental in changing the music landscape Uptown, treating the neighborhood to performances from such artists as Rich Medina, Pete Rock, and Flaco Navajo among many others. Well, on a recent Tuesday night, Apt 78 was once again introducing people to a future star. Washington Heights’ native rapper/singer Audubon was in his element and turned a listening party for his latest album Digging for Sunlight, into an intimate and masterful performance. By the way, Audubon also dropped a new video off of that project.
The People’s Theatre Project in collaboration with Theatre of the Oppressed NYC is putting together an original, interactive, and theatrical event entitled The Immigration Circus. The new production deals with the performer’s true stories of immigration and deportation and will premiere on Thursday, November 10th at the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood. In honor of the anniversary of the 175th birthday of philanthropist, financier, and community resident, J Hood Wright, we reposted our Park Portfolio of the park that bears his name. The photo essay by the incomparable Briana E. Heard captures the magic and majesty of that beautiful park.
We ended the week with a candid and very funny interview conducted by Paola “Dominican Pie” Soto with the men of the hour, Juan Bago and O. The Q&A delves into the machinations of the viral video creating duo. The hit makers also talk about some of the future projects that are in the works.
As always, keep checking us out at www.uptowncollective.com.
