December 5 – December 10
Okay folks, let’s show the rest of New York City that Uptown cares by taking your new and gently used adult and children’s coats to Brazen Lingerie (253 Dyckman Street) through December 31st. Kudos to Brazen for taking part in the annual NY Cares Coat Drive. You know the motto by now, “spread love it’s the Uptown way.”
Did you know that the first annual Pinball Open took place at Le’Cheile (839 W. 181st Street) recently? The newly opened Le’Cheile adds a distinct Gaelic flair to our Uptown culinary universe. The event was a fundraiser for Dolphin Park, a local community playground. Check out our pictures of the event courtesy of celebrated photographer Jay Franco.
I had the distinct pleasure of attending Hennessy’s Discover Your Blend tasting at 809 Lounge (112 Dyckman Street) on Monday December 5th. Not only were we plied with copious amount of outstanding spirits but we were also treated to a thorough break down of the making of Hennessy’s latest lineup of innovative and inspired drinks. These are no mere cocktails but carefully crafted concoctions made with only the finest ingredients.
I am going to let everyone, Latinos and non-Latinos alike, in on a little secret. Latino is NOT a race. It is an identity made up of various races, cultures and many nationalities. A Latino can look like a pre-bleaching Sammy Sosa, actor Andy Garcia or Bolivian President Evo Morales. A new and exciting documentary series by Dash Harris explores the dimensions of the African Diaspora throughout Latin America. Dash Harris sat down with the UC to give us some insights into the conceptualization of this important project.
We also posted the 2nd installment of the Flashing Lights column, which features photo essays by some of the leading neighborhood photographers. This time around we featured the lens work of Inwood native Steven R. Hazlett and his searing portraits of New Yorkers. In addition, the UC premiered Uptown producer Frankie P’s latest video that was produced by our very own Art By Dj Boy. By the way, do you know what the 55 Movement is all about? You should. Go to our site and read the 55 Manifesto and take a gander at the subsequent pictures and video.
