August 8 – August 13
With the NBA lockout looming, the stars of the league are making a pilgrimage to Dyckman Park to play in the hottest streetball tournament in the city. A who’s who of NBA talent has been showing up regularly to play in our very own backyard; folks like Ron Artest, Kevin Durant, Kemba Walker, Brandon Jennings and Michael Beasley among others. Make sure you stop by Dyckman Park to see the NBA’s stars getting busy before the summer is over.
The alternate Thursday night line-up on Blog Talk Radio just got even better. That’s right folks, the one and only Juan Bago alongside his comedic cohorts Loca La Boca and JFernz will be airing their new show The Bochinche Bueno Show on Thursday nights right before The Voices of Uptown Show featuring the always awesome Carolina Pichardo and Claudio E. Cabrera.
There is something happening here. What you are witnessing, ladies and gentlemen, is the blooming of an arts movement that has been growing for some time now but is starting to coalesce into a full-blown juggernaut. That energy, verve and spirit was in full expression at the NYC Over & Under Photo exhibit opening reception at the Rio Gallery. The photographers featured were my good friend Jay Franco as well as Jonathan Guerrero, Magdiel Baez and Tomas De Lo Santos. This exhibit dramatically documents the real New York City, in all its griminess and glory, squalor and splendor. I cannot recommend this show more, stop by the Rio Gallery sometime before September 6th and see what everyone is buzzing about.
The very popular Uptown Tweet of the Week column featured a hilarious tweet with accompanying picture from Uptown giant and friend to the UC, Lin-Manuel Miranda. We ended the week with an amazing set of must-see pictures and video by our very own DJ Boy entitled Summer in the Heights.

Its objective is to reset, reboot and positively redefine Uptown’s artistic, political, cultural and business spheres via the online space as well the collective’s initiatives and functions.
