A new, European-style McDonald’s restaurant debuted this past week in Washington Heights, offering outlets for laptops, upholstered chairs and soft lighting. Attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony were a number of elected officials and community leaders, including New York State Assemblymember Guillermo Linares and Leo V. Martinez, Executive Director for the Bronx Central Council for Economic Development (BOEDC).
Your morning coffee run just got very European – and still very affordable.
A new McDonald’s restaurant opened up on West 159th Street and Broadway this past Wed., Sept. 21st, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by local elected officials and community leaders.
The “MickieD’s”is the first in northern Manhattan to undergo a sleek, European-style transformation in décor and ambiance, and is outfitted with outlets for plugging in laptops, upholstered chairs instead of fiberglass seats bolted to the floor, and subdued lighting. The restaurant is intended to mimic thousands of the famed franchise eateries already found in France and the United Kingdom.
Owner Tony Rodriguez, who owns 19 McDonald’s throughout the City, was particularly proud to bring the upscale experience uptown. “This is a terrific new gathering space for the community, and was designed to be welcoming and vibrant,” he said, pointing to the many amenities that were thoughtfully chosen for residents.
