Kelly Corwin

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital announced that Dr. Steven J. Corwin (right) will serve as CEO and Dr. Robert E. Kelly will be president, replacing Dr. Herbert Pardes, who held both positions for 11 years.

The Board of Trustees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital announced its new chief executive officer and president on Tue., June 28 who will replace Dr. Herbert Pardes, who currently holds both titles.

Dr. Steven J. Corwin will serve as CEO and Dr. Robert E. Kelly was named president and will report to Corwin.

When Pardes announced that he was stepping down a few years ago, the hospital began a national search for his replacement, but both appointments come from within the hospital. They become effective on Sep. 6.

Corwin has been executive vice president and COO since 2005 after joining the hospital’s management team in 1991, when it was known as Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Corwin’s medical training is in internal medicine and cardiology.

Kelly now serves as the hospital’s group senior vice president, having joined the management team of The New York Hospital in 1995 before it merged with The Presbyterian Hospital in 1998 to form NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

His medical background is in anesthesiology.

“[Dr. Corwin] and Dr. Kelly represent the next generation of leadership for this remarkable institution,” said John J. Mack, who chairs the hospital’s board of trustees.

“They, along with the rest of our senior executive team, have exceeded ambitious objectives in a very challenging environment to enhance patient care, to strengthen the hospital’s financial stability and to promote community health. They will continue NewYork-Presbyterian’s commitment to advancing quality care for patients and their families.”

Pardes, who served for 11 years as both president and CEO, will become executive vice chairman of the hospital’s board of trustees.
