The March 16 Small Business Fair at the Inwood Center drew an audience of about 200 business-oriented Northern Manhattanites.

With business cards, brochures, and fliers in hand, Northern Manhattan business owners and local entrepreneurs gathered on Wed., March 16 at the Inwood Center located at 5030 Broadway on W. 213th Street to take part in the first local small business fair in recent memory.

The fair was organized in partnership with Workspace, the Washington Heights-Inwood Chamber of Commerce, and the Manhattan Times, drawing around 200 local businesses from all types of industry. Graphic design experts, real estate firms, fitness providers, community organizations, insurance companies, and law firms were among those that attended the networking event to make local connections. The fair provided the opportunity to capture ideas and suggestions from local business owners about how to improve the business community in Northern Manhattan.

The fair was supported by local elected officials and attended by City Council Members Robert Jackson and Ydanis Rodriguez, who reminded business owners and residents to remain engaged in the local economy. “Small businesses are an important component of our community, we all need to support them.” said Rodriguez.

Sixty tables showcased participating businesses and organizations in the vast, undeveloped side of the sixth floor that has yet to be carved into office space units.

Nationwide Insurance offered the highlight of the event, raffling off an iPad and a business consultation to anyone willing to putt a golf ball across the floor and drop their business card into a bucket.

The small business fair even had its presence in the twittersphere, with social media-savy attendants posting the events of the day. “Networked, met people, won an ipad, spent time with mom, yeah this was a great day,” said local Web designer and developer Antonio Gonzalez, aka TonyCreative.
