Livery cab drivers plan to mobilize a protest in front of Gov. Cuomo’s midtown offices on 40th Street and Third Avenue this coming Wed., Sept. 28th to call upon him to sign the street hail legislation which the NYS State Legislature has already passed.

The Livery Base Owners, Inc. and Association of Independent Taxi Drivers are preparing to mobilize and make their voices heard in a protest at the midtown offices of Governor Andrew Cuomo on 40th Street and Third Avenue, scheduled for Wed., Sept. 28th at 11 am.

Recently, the Governor implied that the bill, approved by both houses of the State legislature, that would legalize the practice of livery cab drivers to respond to street hails, was losing support. Since then, Governor Cumo has received letters from three powerful legislative bodies composed of minority members, including the Black Caucus, the Hispanic Task Force, and the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus of the New York City Council, urging the Governor to sign the bill precisely as it was passed by the legislature.

“We want to make clear to the Governor that our legislative efforts have not lost support. And above all, that he recognize that an industry that employs a significant number of African-American and Latinos calls upon him to act immediately and sign this bill into law,” said Cira Angeles, spokesperson for the Livery Base Owners, Inc.
