Local school children received free book bags filled with notebooks, reading materials and school supplies on their first day back to school. State Assemblyman Guillermo Linares, World Vision, and Literacy Inc. partnered to distribute the supplies at local schools.

As schools across the City geared up to open their doors for the first day of class on Thurs., Sept. 8th, hundreds of children from community school district 6 in Northern Manhattan received free school supplies on their first day of school.

The distribution, organized by the office of State Assemblyman Guillermo Linares, was also attended by representatives of World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization and Literacy Inc., a local nonprofit that promotes literacy for young school children, also helped to organize the event. Two hundred book bags, packed with pencils, notebooks, pens, and a selection of books, were distributed to children in P.S. 128, P.S. 189, P.S. 152, and P.S. 98.

“As the father of two children, I understand sometimes parents cannot provide all the materials their children need for school,” said Assemblyman Guillermo Linares.

Children of all grades from Pre-K through 5th grade were given the new supplies in an effort to ensure they were ready for their first day and to highlight the importance of preparedness.
