Tenor Salvatore Chiarelli
A benefit concert for the victims of the earthquake in Japan will be held this Sun., Oct 23rd at 3 pm at the Good Shepherd Church in Inwood.
The concert will feature award-winning international performers, Tenor Salvatore Chiarelli, and Soprano Elga Johannes, who will be accompanied by pianist William Glazier.
“The concert is about peace, love and healing. We need everyone’s help and attendance to make the event a success, and [to] create global awareness,” said Chiarelli.
The program will feature a diversified content incorporating classic Italian songs, popular opera, duets, old Irish airs, Spanish American, Russian and Yiddish songs. Families are welcome to join in sing-alongs, and all ages are encouraged to attend.
“We started working on this back in June. We felt it was important to keep the awareness alive. Japan and the earthquake and tsunami victims received media attention right after the events, but it has slowed down. We want to make sure to create that awareness again,” said Chiarelli, native from New York City, who comes from a musical Italian family. Chiarelli is a spinto dramatic tenor trained in opera in Italy and New York City, and has toured throughout the country and Europe.
All the proceeds will go directly to the tsunami victims, through the efforts of the Capuchin-Franciscan Friars who are serving among the people of Japan.

So far approximately 150 tickets have sold, but Chiarelli is hoping to pack the 700-seat church with both local residents from the neighborhood, and others who will come support his cause.
“We’ve been distributing flyers and spreading the word to the schools, community organizations and on the Web as well,” said Chiarelli. “This is for a great cause, and we’re hoping that people come out to support it.”

Un concierto a beneficio de las víctimas del terremoto en Japón se llevará a cabo este domingo 23 de octubre a las 3 p.m. en la Iglesia del Buen Pastor en Inwood.
El concierto contará con galardonados artistas internacionales, tenor Salvatore Chiarelli, y Soprano Elga Johannes, quienes estarán acompañado por el pianista William Glazier.
