“Please Remove Your Shoes.”
So read the sign at the entrance of the new Zomoti Yoga Studio in the Inwood Center building at 5030 Broadway, on 213th Street.
With an amazing view to behold of both the Bronx and Washington Heights, the brand new yoga studio welcomed guests who padded in just with their socks for their grand opening on Sat., Dec. 10th, on a sunny afternoon.
Giovanna Rogow, owner of Zomoti Yoga Studio, has been working in The Bronx, Harlem and Washington Heights for the last twenty years.
Her experience in this area inspired her, she explained, to open the yoga studio.
“I noticed more people with diabetes, more people with amputations and they kept getting younger, and younger,” said Rogow.
As a marketer of cardiovascular and diabetic medicine to the local hospitals in the area, she saw distressing patterns that led her to contemplate a change in career. Rogow believes that holistic living is the way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“I’ve always practiced yoga. I’ve always been into nutrition. I am a vegetarian,” said Rogow. “My life experiences and my values are what fired up my passion to teach the principles of holistic, successful living and how to do that with yoga,” she added.
The Yoga Studio has three instructors: owner Giovanna Rogow; Taquice Campbell who has been enhancing her knowledge of yoga for the last six years; and Stephen who is still learning how to teach yoga at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York City.
There are different levels of yoga taught at Zomoti, from yoga basics to Power Yoga and Yoga Fire.
“Yoga is not something that requires brawn; anyone can do it,” Rogow said.
And if yoga seems a bit daunting at the moment, there are still small health tips that Rogow offers.
“Drink six glasses of water, and get 6 to 7 hours of sleep. We need and deserve sleep,” said Rogow.
Still, she advises that yoga provides something that you cannot get anywhere else, something that can help everyone.
“Yoga is not a religion. It’s a system of wellness that, when put into practice, provides an inner and deeper tranquility,” said Rogow.
