June 28 – July 3
The Uptown Collective is NOT just an online thing. Yes, we are virtual, viral but we also have our boots solidly on the ground. This is a movement and you can't have a movement without boots on the ground. We are ubiquitous; from the fancy lounges to the hole in wall joints, from the parks to the landmarks, from the farmer's markets to the botanicas and everywhere in between. We got Uptown covered.
We began the week with another installment of the My Space column, which is where we feature the abode of one of the residents of the neighborhood. This week’s subject was my mother, whose has lived in the same apartment in the W. 190’s and Wadsworth Avenue since 1979. If you ever wanted to see the inside of an old-school Dominican’s person home, search no further.
Our popular wellness column, The Elixir, was dedicated to the magnificent mango. Not only is this fruit super delectable, it is also low in calories, high in dietary fiber, and loaded with vitamins and minerals. Besides, Mangoes and summertime just go hand in hand.
The Uptown Collective’s first Politicking With The People forum held at La Sala 78 on Wed., June 30 featuring Guillermo Linares was an unequivocal success. The young, professional and forward-thinking invitees were given access to someone running for office in their community in an intimate and very personal environment. To the credit of Mr. Linares, he did not give a stump speech but spoke earnestly and honestly about his qualifications and motivation for running for State Assembly.
The Politicking With The People forum was a milestone in the evolution of the Uptown Collective. It proved that we are not content to sit on the sidelines and watch; we are here to do the heavy lifting of making this neighborhood what it is meant to be. You can keep tabs on that transformation at www.uptowncollective.com.
