Nonprofit groups throughout the city are mounting a campaign to pressure Governor Paterson to restore $190 million he cut from legislators’ member items, much of which helps fund neighborhood service providers, from programs for young people to senior citizen centers.
The effort, called “Restore Community Service,” will include a rally on Fri., Nov. 12 in front of Paterson’s home in Harlem (45 W. 132nd St. near 5th Avenue) from 10 am to noon. Then on Mon., Nov. 15 nonprofit leaders will head to Albany for a 9 a.m. rally on the steps of the State Capital. Nonprofit leaders are also encouraging supporters to call/write/Facebook/Tweet and otherwise tell their elected leaders that the funding must be restored.
The timing is critical: Paterson has called for a “Special Session” on Mon., Nov. 15 for the Legislature to complete unfinished business.
