Get Fit for FREE
Get fit and have fun with your family at the FREE Family Fitness Night at the Y - with CHALK! On Mon., Aug. 9 from 6-7pm, kids between the ages of 5-12 can bring their families along to a fun-filled fitness program at the YM&YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood. Located at 54 Nagle Ave. just north of Broadway, this program is FREE to residents of the neighborhood and their kids.
Preschool Story Time
Bring your preschoolers to enjoy a story at the Fort Washington Branch Library, 535 W. 179th St. and Audubon Ave., on Tue., Aug. 10 from 3:30-4pm. Three- to five-year-olds will listen to favorite tales and new books read by the librarian. The program, which takes place each Tuesday at the same time, is FREE to the public. Learn to Dance
Teens and young adults can learn to break dance for FREE on Tue., Aug. 10 and Thu., Aug. 12, from 6-8:45pm at Highbridge Recreation Center, 2301 Amsterdam Ave. at W. 173rd St. Check out http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_things_to_do/recreation_centers for more information on this and other free ongoing parks programs for families.
Latin Music
On Wed., Aug. 11, you and your family are invited to hang out on the porch and listen to tunes at Dyckman Farmhouse. The Backporch Concert Series performer this week is Kiara Duran, whose show, "Latina, American and All Heart," features Latin and traditional Venezuelan songs by her favorite songwriters. The FREE music and porch hang will take place between 6:30- 8pm. Bring a blanket for the lawn or park bench while you enjoy the summer evening and the music. The Farmhouse folks ask that you please do not bring chairs, as they may block someone's view.
