Police and Urban Park Rangers wielding tranquilizer guns shut down the Henry Hudson Parkway on Wed., June 9 while they hunted for a deer that had scampered on the highway north of W. 181st Street near the colonnaded shelter known as Inspiration Point.

Long lines of cars in both directions sat bumper to bumper as the officers armed with nets searched for the deer, who had already been hit with a tranquilizer dart, in the steep foliage that separates the north and south bound lanes.

During afternoon rush hour the day before the two agencies were called to tend to an injured deer in the same spot, though it was unclear to witnesses passing by if the animal was injured by a vehicle or by some other means.

Deer have been seen with increasing frequency in nearby Ft. Tryon Park.

Calls for comment from the Parks Department were not returned in time for this report.
