Bronx resident Ozzie Ortiz has been in the chef business since 1989 and working in New York eateries for several years during the early part of his career. After returning to the city recently from South Florida, he and an unnamed business partner decided to open up a restaurant in Inwood that would promote good health, delicious food and convenience at a low price.

“We wanted to offer healthier and more affordable options for people in the neighborhood,” he said, adding that the most fattening complete dinner on his menu contained less than 870 calories, and his most expensive meal was only $10.95. “Our turkey burger is only $5. We also have low-carb, vegetarian, lean meats, low-salt, no butter meals, including things like paninis, wraps, mushroom burgers, veggie burgers and salads.”

He said he purchases many of his vegetables from local green markets and his breads from neighborhood bakeries, choosing to keep things as local as possible.

Geared mainly for take-out, Green Naturally on Grill offers free deliveries throughout Washington Heights and Inwood and plans to add sidewalk dining after their permit is approved. Ortiz said the menu is already being “tweaked,” as suggestions from clients and new ideas inspire him. He may add a children’s menu in the coming months, to accommodate local families and inspire kids to choose his healthy fast-food options.

“We’re also thinking about opening for breakfast in the near future and offering bagels with several different types of cream cheeses,” he said.

For now, Green Naturally on Grill, located at 92 Nagle Avenue, between Elwood and Sickles Streets, is open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. for take-out and free delivery. Call 1-646-370-6748 for more information.
